The Law of Dominion Naming

Look at the photo of the dense star formation at the bottom of the blog and consider that each of the million, or perhaps billion, points of light recorded, are stars.  Further consider some of the points of light are actually galaxies of billions, even trillions, of stars.  The incredible number of stars in this photo, is just a minute fraction of the total number of stars in our universe.

Now contemplate the awesome truth that not only did God create such a masterpiece, He keeps a count and has a name for each and every one of the stars in the entire universe (Psalm 147:4), even the new stars that are, and will, be forming.

This principle is known as the Law of Dominion Naming; the Creator, Who has dominion over all His creation, is the one who has the authority to name each of the entities of His creation.

We know from scripture that God has delegated to man (Adam) the authority to rule over all terrestrial animals.  We see this in Genesis 1:28, when God gave Adam dominion over the animal kingdom and then, as a consequence of this delegation of authority by God, Adam is tasked with naming the animals (Genesis 2:19) -- notice animals are brought to Adam by God.

Now consider that fact that as a believer you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), you have become a child of God (John 1:12).  You will be named by God; we are told in Revelation 3:12 (Christ’s letter to the church in Philadelphia), that we, as believers, will receive Christ’s new name, the name of the heavenly city of God (citizenship name, akin to being named a Roman citizen) and the name of God in the heaven (kingship name, akin to being named subject of King Alexander the Great).

Never forget, as a believer you have great import to the King and His Kingdom.  Your awards await in that great city, including your naming ceremony when the King Himself will give you a new and everlasting name.
